While his first two round matches have been rather uneventful (other than the rain, of course), that doesn’t mean that Roger Federer and his family are leading a humdrum existence here in Indian Wells. As always, they manage to find a way to enjoy their experience to the fullest.
1. They are eating well.
Roger mentioned that they’ve already hit Nobu and Spago on the grounds at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Given how big their group is, and how long the lines are to get into both places, this is no small feat. I’m sure being Roger Federer, or somehow attached to him, however tenuously, may help with the lines.
2. Strong lemonade sales.
Federer mentioned on the Tennis Channel that his kids have sold $70 worth of lemonade while in Indian Wells. This is quite impressive — my career lemonade stand earnings are in the $5 range. Granted, they’re likely on a fancier street than my usual lemonade stand territory, and people might figure out that this is Federer lemonade. As good as those sales are, kids, I’ve got a recommendation: RF Cups. Do you know how much people are paying for the hats/shirts/shorts/etc.? You should get a cut of that and start putting it on the cups. You can charge at least $5 a cup for that. You’re welcome.
3. Hanging With Friends.
I know, I KNOW. I’m Team Gwen too, but they’re either being very neutral and Swiss and supporting both Gavin and Gwen, or they’re giving up on Gwen because they don’t want to go to Oklahoma with her and Blake. Either way, at least Fed entertained us by hitting one of the autographed game balls directly to Gavin in one of the hospitality suites. I may not agree with this choice, but I appreciate the skills.
According to Fed in a TV interview, his kids made $7 selling lemonade – closer to the norm for this type of venture, I would guess.
